How to Create an Unique ID?

Updated: May 14, 2021

Today we live in a world where everything is connected. The power of data is limitless. In such scenarios where data is the root of so many ecosystems, we need an unique identifier to create relationships, detect and secure the work.

Here comes the need for a Unique ID.

One common issue I used to face while converting an Excel sheet into Access is the primary key.

'A primary key is a field in MS Access to identify the entire record as unique in dataset.'

Unique Id can also help in tracking down record. There are 4 examples mentioned below to create the ID:

Unique ID 1: It is a short Id that automatically sorts the list date wise,

Unique ID 2: It sorts date wise but combines more than one cell,

Unique ID 3: It consists of a set of random numbers which will keep the Id different every time,

Unique ID 4: A prefix can be added before a unique code like "Cast ID",

Full Name: CONCATENATE is used for combining 2 or more cell.

By mixing different cell new codes can be created depends upon the use.
